How Many Haitian Patties Should You Order for a Party?
Share
The guest list is taking shape, you know you want Haitian patties on the table, and now comes the practical question: how many should you order?
A useful starting point is 1–2 whole patties per person when they are appetizers alongside other food, or 2–3 per person when they are a substantial part of a meal served with sides. These are planning estimates, not fixed serving sizes. Patty size, appetites, the rest of the menu, and the length of the gathering all matter.
Below, we turn those estimates into quantities for 10, 20, and 30 guests, then show how to build an order using Lakay Flavors packs.
Start with the role patties will play
Before counting packs, picture the whole table. Will guests have a patty while waiting for dinner? Will patties sit beside several other appetizers? Or will they be the main savory food at a casual lunch?
Before a full dinner: start near the lower end of the appetizer range. One patty per person, with a small extra allowance, may fit a short welcome period when more food is coming.
At a longer appetizer gathering: plan toward two per person if patties will be one of the main things people eat. Guests may come back for another filling, especially when there is no full dinner afterward.
As part of a meal: begin with two to three per person and include sides. If patties will be the only substantial food, or your group has bigger appetites, increase the quantity or add another filling dish.
A quantity guide for 10, 20, or 30 guests
| Guests | Appetizers with other food 1–2 per person |
Meal with sides 2–3 per person |
|---|---|---|
| 10 | 10–20 patties | 20–30 patties |
| 20 | 20–40 patties | 40–60 patties |
| 30 | 30–60 patties | 60–90 patties |
Count whole patties consistently. Cutting a patty into two pieces creates two tasting portions, but it does not double the amount of food. Also allow for anyone who will be helping or hosting and eating with the group.
If you have never ordered our patties before and are planning an important event, a smaller order ahead of time can help you judge the size, choose fillings, and decide how they fit your menu.
Turn your head count into actual packs
Our puff pastry patties are listed in packs of 8, 12, and 24. Our pate kode listing includes 10- and 20-patty options. Here are practical combinations using those sizes.
| Plan | Puff pastry option | Pate kode option |
|---|---|---|
| 10 guests: appetizers before dinner | 1 × 12-pack = 12 | 1 × 10-pack = 10 |
| 20 guests: appetizers before dinner | 1 × 24-pack = 24 | 1 × 20-pack = 20 |
| 30 guests: appetizers before dinner | 1 × 24-pack + 1 × 12-pack = 36 | 1 × 20-pack + 1 × 10-pack = 30 |
| 10 guests: meal with sides | 1 × 24-pack = 24 | 1 × 20-pack + 1 × 10-pack = 30 |
| 20 guests: meal with sides | 2 × 24-packs = 48 | 2 × 20-packs + 1 × 10-pack = 50 |
| 30 guests: meal with sides | 3 × 24-packs = 72 | 4 × 20-packs = 80 |
Choose one column as an example order, not both. The appetizer examples sit near the lower end of the range and assume a full meal follows. The pate kode appetizer examples give exactly one per guest, with no extra allowance. Add another pack when you expect seconds, extra guests, or a longer wait before dinner.
These are quantity examples rather than a claim about the cheapest combination. Review the current price and availability for each filling before checking out.
Offer variety without losing track of the total
Two fillings are often easier to plan and label than a different filling for every few guests. Begin with what your group already enjoys. If you are unsure, ask a few guests before deciding, and check dietary restrictions early.
For a 20-person meal, for example, two 24-patty puff pastry packs give you 48 patties. You could select one beef pack and one chicken pack if both combinations are available. That is still one 48-patty order; changing the filling does not change the head-count calculation.
To offer both pastry styles, choose a combined total first. One 24-pack of puff pastry patties plus one 20-pack of pate kode gives you 44 patties, or a little over two per guest for 20 people. Add sides and adjust upward if that sounds small for your particular group.
Use separate labeled platters for each filling. Fish fillings should be clearly identified, and each platter should have its own serving utensil. For a custom assortment or a larger event, contact us before ordering to discuss the details.
Build a menu around the patties
A few complementary foods can make the table more interesting and help you avoid relying on patties alone to feed everyone.
- Pikliz: Put a bowl of our spicy cabbage condiment beside the patties so guests can add their own heat and crunch.
- Cornets: Our beef-filled cornets offer another pastry shape for the appetizer table. Count them as additional food, rather than assuming each cornet replaces a whole patty.
- Chiktay: Choose a smoked herring or salted cod spread from our product collection and serve it with crackers or another accompaniment you enjoy. Label the fish clearly.
- Something sweet: Bonbon sirop, pain patate, or kokiyòl can provide a separate dessert course. Select the dessert quantity according to its own serving size.
For a fuller meal, add substantial sides such as rice, beans, vegetables, or a salad. Guests' preferences and the rest of your menu should guide how much you prepare.
Order around the event date
Our patties currently ship fully cooked and fresh. Preparation usually takes 1–2 business days. Orders received Thursday through the weekend ship Monday, and carrier delivery time comes after shipment.
Before ordering for a fixed date, send us your ZIP code, guest count, event date, and preferred products. Confirming the timing first is especially useful for a large order. Leave room in the refrigerator or freezer before the delivery arrives, and arrange for someone to receive it promptly.
Plan the serving as carefully as the order
Check your oven space before the party. A 60-patty order may take several trays or batches, depending on the appliance. Plan when each batch will be reheated and how you will keep food at a safe serving temperature.
Put your party order together
Start with your guest count, decide whether patties are appetizers or part of the meal, and choose a total that fits the rest of the food you are serving. Round that total to available packs, then select your fillings.
